She rents three billboards in the town to tell her story - hence the movie name. She goes to war with the town police (Sheriff Woody Harrelson), because she thinks they are more interested in torturing black people than getting justice. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is about Mildred Hayes, a 50-year-old woman (Frances McDormand) whose daughter is murdered.
